Mr. Daniele Susanni is a Senior Manager in ENVIRON’s Milano, Italy office. He trained as a geologist (MSc) and he has over 10 years of experience in environmental consulting with expertise in Contaminated Site Assessment (Soil & Groundwater Characterization), Risk Assessment and Remediation.

His technical responsibilities include the implementation of site investigations, remedial action programs where appropriate, groundwater modelling and treatment plant design. Daniele has worked extensively with industrial and commercial clients in a variety of sectors including petroleum, chemical, automotive, metals processing, electronic, and manufactured gas plants. He has expertise in application of in-situ remedial technologies.

Experience Highlights

  • Technical supervisor for the drafting of several Characterization Plans, according to Italian Ministerial Decree No. 471/99 and Legislative Decree no. 152/06 at several industrial sites (mainly contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbons, BTEX, chlorinated solvents, PAHs, metals and creosote).
  • Technical supervisor for a large investigation program over 300 gas stations and depots for major Oil Companies: soil and groundwater assessment, soil gas sampling and vapor intrusion issues, LNAPL behaviour, natural attenuation.
  • Project Manager for the Phase II assessment of soil and groundwater at several chemical plants in the province of Venezia (Porto Marghera “Superfund” site), Alessandria, Milano, Varese and Ferrara.
  • Technical supervisor for the drafting of Preliminary and Final Remediation Design, according to Italian Ministerial Decree No. 471/99 and Legislative Decree no. 152/06 at several industrial sites (mainly contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbons, BTEX, chlorinated solvents, PAHs and metals).
  • Technical supervisor for a large remediation program over 300 gas stations and depots for major Oil Companies; applied technologies include LNAPL recovery, soil vapor extraction, multiphase extraction, bioventing, air sparging, enhanced bioremediation, dig&haul.
  • Technical supervisor for the operation, maintenance and monitoring (O&MM) of several in-situ remediation plants (applying soil vapor extraction, multiphase extraction, bioventing, air sparging, biosparging) at sites contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbons, BTEX, MTBE and chlorinated solvents.
  • Project Coordinator for the Feasibility Studies and the Preliminary Remediation Designs at a large landfill (19 hectares) in the Province of Venice; groundwater modelling, final design, installation and O&M of a pump and treat system for chlorinated solvents and arsenic removal from groundwater.
  • Project Coordinator for the remediation design of soil and groundwater contaminated by LNAPL at a chemical facility in the Province of Varese; implementation and start-up of soil vapor extraction and pump&treat systems; monitoring of groundwater natural attenuation processes; feasibility studies for alternative technologies (air sparging and multiphase extraction).
  • Project Manager for the fate and transport modeling of BTEX plume at two chemical facilities in Northern Italy, of a chlorinated hydrocarbons plume at a U.S. Navy former site in Massachusetts (USA), including the evaluation of different remediation technologies (Natural Attenuation vs. Pump &Treat).
