ENVIRON scoops UK environmental award
Date: November 08, 2011
ENVIRON has been recognised as the Best Consultancy for Due Diligence at the edie Awards for Environmental Excellence 2011, announced on 3rd November. Niall Smiddy, UK Managing Principal and David Scott, Managing Principal for ENVIRON’s UK due diligence activities collected the award.
ENVIRON’s due diligence practice work in the UK assesses the environmental, compliance, financial, health and safety risks associated with transactions involving acquisitions, mergers and/or divestitures of companies or properties, particularly assets with a heavy industrial legacy. Large transactional due diligence managed from the UK this year included work in the commodities, aviation, oil and gas, mining and heavy and manufacturing sectors. The UK due diligence team also works internationally, including throughout Africa, the Middle East, South East Asia, China and Latin America.
ENVIRON was also shortlisted in six other categories: Best for Climate Change & Renewables, Best for Water & Wastewater, Best for Waste & Resource Management, Best for Impact Assessment & Planning, Best for Contaminated Land and Best Environmental Consultancy.
The Awards for Environmental Excellence is one of the few environmental awards recognised by the RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) accreditation scheme. As such winners in the edie Awards have the opportunity to go forward to the coveted European Business Awards for the Environment, where they will fight it out with the best European projects for the opportunity to win on the international stage.
Nominees were selected following interviews with 500 environmental consultancy customers across large public and private sector organisations throughout the UK and the winners were revealed at a black tie gala dinner in London hosted by comedian Marcus Brigstocke.
Niall Smiddy said: “Thorough, scientifically accurate and commercial astute environmental due diligence advice is at the heart of many transactions and particularly valued for flagging up issues and helping to reduce potential liabilities. The team is sought after for its technical expertise and ability to understand clients’ businesses and should be congratulated that these efforts have been rewarded at a national level.”
In 2010 ENVIRON took the award for Contaminated Land Consultant of the Year.
