Winners of this year's California Clean Tech Open included Microvi Biotech, who took home the ENVIRON Foundation Prize in the Air, Water, and Waste category with their waste-free water treatment technology. Allan Delorme, a principal in ENVIRON's Emeryville, California office, tore open the envelope and announced the winner in Monday night's awards ceremony held in San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts, at the conclusion of the annual business plan competition. The goal of the founders of the California Clean Tech Open is "to foster innovative businesses focused on energy efficiency, smart power, renewable energy, transportation, green building materials, pollution control, and resource management." Winners receive a "$100,000 Start-Up in a Box" prize that includes $50,000 cash and $50,000 in business services, to enable the green entrepreneurs to take their winning ideas from concept to viable business. The gala was attended by all 46 finalist teams who exhibited their products and services, 750 entrepreneurs, technologists, investors and policy makers, and competition supporters from ENVIRON, including Megan DiBiase, David Scrimger, Loren Bentley Tammero, Stan Hayes, Charlotte Helvestine, Kun Zhao, Kim Schmidt, Juliann Chen, and Nyree Bekarian.
