Jonker joins ENVIRON Southern California Air Quality Practice

ENVIRON is pleased to announce the addition of Peter E. Jonker , M.S., J.D., as a Senior Manager in the firm’s Southern California Air Quality Practice, based in the Irvine office. Jonker has over thirty years’ experience ranging from research engineer to company executive. Before joining ENVIRON, he served as the corporate director of environment and safety for Sempra Energy.
In announcing the association, Joseph Hower , a Principal with ENVIRON, and the Southern California Air Quality Practice Leader commented, “Pete will be a key resource in our Southern California Air Quality Practice, where he will focus on providing high-level strategic support to clients regarding air quality and permitting issues.”
Formerly a director of the Air & Waste Management Association and a former board member of the California Council for Environmental and Economic Balance, Jonker served on the California Air Resources Board’s Air Quality Curriculum Review Panel and on the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s (SCAQMD) Advisory Council. He was a member of the SCAQMD budget advisory and special revenue committees and served on Governor Pete Wilson’s Permit Reform Advisory Committee. Originally appointed by the Clinton Administration, and then reappointed by the Bush Administration, he was a member of the US EPA’s Clean Air Act Advisory Committee.
A member of the California Bar, Jonker holds a B.S. and M.S. in chemical engineering, cum laude, from the University of Southern California and a J.D. with honors from Western State University. He is a frequent speaker on environmental and energy related topics; has published numerous environmental policy articles and technical articles on environmental control methods; and has taught chemical engineering courses at his alma mater.
