Steve Washburn, CEO, has been with ENVIRON for much of its 25-year history. He has served as Managing Principal of the firm's Northern California operations and as a member of ENVIRON's Board of Directors. Steve has more than 20 years of experience in environmental science and engineering, with special emphasis on risk assessment and risk-based remediation. Specific areas of expertise include contaminant fate and transport, exposure assessment, risk assessment, risk-based evaluation and remediation of hazardous waste and industrial sites, and hazardous waste management. He has also provided litigation support and acted as an expert witness on matters related to exposure assessment, risk assessment, and site remediation.

Experience Highlights

  • Risk assessment, remedial design, remedy selection, development of site investigation strategies and litigation support at Superfund, RCRA, and other hazardous waste or industrial sites.
  • Air quality evaluations and risk assessments at a broad array of industrial facilities, hazardous waste sites, transportation facilities (including airports), combustion facilities, and residential dwellings.
  • Exposure and risk evaluations for consumer products including textiles, glue, paints, solvents, roadway materials, paper products, and petroleum-based materials.
  • Ecological risk assessments at hazardous waste sites, industrial facilities, and incinerators.
  • Selected by US EPA to serve on the external expert peer review panels for the Guidance on Surface Soil Cleanup at Hazardous Waste Sites: Implementing Cleanup Levels, the Human Health Risk Assessment Protocol for Hazardous Waste Combustion Facilities, the Human Health Risk Assessment for the Housatonic River Site, and for the Multimedia, Multi-pathway, and Multiple Receptor Risk Assessment (3MRA) model developed for the Hazardous Waste Identification Rule (HWIR).
  • Expert testimony in the areas of risk assessment, exposure assessment, and hazardous waste management.
  • Litigation support in various contexts, including toxic tort, insurance, cost allocation/cost recovery, and bankruptcy matters.
