Matthew has over 16 years environmental consulting experience, in environmental impact assessment and management, environmental due diligence of single and multiple locations in different jurisdictions as part of M&A and investor-led transactions; compliance assistance and permit application and negotiation; environmental risk assessment; corporate environmental strategy, environmental compliance auditing, waste strategy studies and training. Key sector experience includes commercial property investment and development, electronics, energy (including offshore oil and gas), food and drinks, investment and lending, manufacturing, packaging, pulp and paper and the waste industry.

• Advised several major UK and US financial institutions on the environmental risks associated with property investment portfolios and acquisitions and redevelopment projects.
• Directed the environmental due diligence assessment associated with £ multi-million transactions involving worldwide industrial facilities.
• Advised Bank of Scotland, the UK's leading provider of finance to MBO/I transactions, on environmental liabilities associated with process compliance, operating risk and ground contamination, for over 50 transactions.
• Advised lenders, property investors, commercial property developers, fuel distributors and retailers on ground contamination risks and remediation strategies. Clients include the main UK high street Banks, UK assurance and insurance companies, overseas investors, US banks, and petrochemical companies.
• Directed and participated in compliance audits and corrective programs for chemical and petrochemical companies, offshore service companies, pulp and paper manufacturers, drinks manufacturers, and waste management companies.
• Directed and participated in environmental impact assessment projects and development consent permits.
• Directed and participated in compliance support and permit application assignments in various industrial sectors.
• Directed and participated in strategic waste management studies; waste landfill site selection studies for local government and private sector clients; and feasibility studies for landfill projects, waste treatment facilities and energy-to-waste plants.
• Directed and participated in Board-level strategic risk studies for corporate clients, ranging from strategic examination of the environmental agenda on corporate strategies to detailed risk reviews of key businesses.
