Food Contact Substances

For more than twenty years, ENVIRON has successfully assisted manufacturers of food contact substances in demonstrating the safety of and obtaining regulatory approval for their products, including paper and plastic packaging for the storage, shipment, and display of food, as well as repeat-use items employed in commercial and household settings.

We have extensive experience in characterizing and evaluating products, consumer uses, and potential exposures. We conduct safety assessments and prepare petitions and notifications under the FDA’s Food Contact Notification (FCN) program. We also conduct safety assessments in conjunction with other independent recognized experts in food safety to evaluate and support a generally recognized as safe (GRAS) determination for a food contact substance if appropriate.

Our chemists, engineers, toxicologists, and statisticians are experienced with the development, evaluation, and presentation of technical information; the contentious scientific issues that may arise and strategies for dealing with them; preparing regulatory submissions; and successfully securing regulatory clearances for new and novel substances.
